Tissot PRX PowerMatic 80: the return of the 70s

In 1978, Tissot creates a quartz model characterized by a slim case, narrow indexes and a steel bracelet. Its wide horizontal strap paw, typical of the time, was perfectly integuted in the flat barrel housing. A few years later, Tissot recorded the PRX name. "Pr" means "precise" and "robust". The "X" represents the Roman digit ten and the pressure of 10 bar, which corresponds to a depth of 100 meters, at which the watch remains waterproof. In 2021, Tissot presents the PRX 40 205, the numbers citing the product number that the watch was boring at the time. This is a modern interpretation of the previous model. The 316L stainless steel housing of the PRX 40 205 tissot has a diameter of 40 mm. It has a slightly barrel shape and is decorated with a narrow and round glasses. On the sides, brushed rounded finishes are vertically alternated with polished facets. Tissot PRX 40 205 PowerMatic 80 is equipped with a dial with a honeycomb pattern. There is also a version with indexes and pink gold needles - a combination of colors that also recalls the end of the 1970s. The housing lines extend directly into the bracelet without using traditional horns. The satin of the outside is also meticulously executed as the polishing of the inner surfaces. The needles of the PRX 40 205 are covered with SuperLuminova® and have been superimposed with very little spacing. This makes it possible to bring the glass dial closer to the watch. The visual effect thus obtained by the tissot designers makes the case of the watch even more flat and thinner than it is actually. The PRX PowerMatic 80 tissot has an inrayable and antireflect sapphire glass and a mineral glass background. This version has a blue dial with index and a 316L stainless steel bracelet with butterfly folding buckle with pushers.
The quartz version of the PRX Tissot has aroused collectors' craze since the beginning of the year. The arrival in July of the PWERMATIC 80 Prx will create a mechanical rush. Explanation of an outstanding watch phenomenon.
With the PRX, the Tissot house reissues an emblematic watchmaking design of the seventies. Sports and casual spirit, all steel skin with integrated bracelet, sober dial and barrel housing: the instrument is similar to the aesthetic vein of icons designed at that time.
No octagonal glasses, nor hinged case. But a beautiful association between a discreet round bezel and a barrel shape body whose lines are prolonged by an integrated bracelet.
It is a watch with a real heritage between finesse and robustness, the watch is also distinguished by its vertical brushed finish that accentuates its sportsman. Equipped with "stick" indexes and needles, the very sleek dial also sports a vertical satin surface.
The housing of the PRX PowerMatic 80 is typical of the 70s. Tonn form, prominent bezel, polished highlights delimiting brushed flat surfaces ... The whole is extended by an integrated bracelet, and surmounted with a flat sapphire glass. With 40mm in diameter for only 10.8mm thick, the PWERMATIC 80 Prx adopts a very fine profile. Quasi-perfect proportions, which make the watch very pleasant to the wrist. The PWERMATIC 80 Prx Dial is the main difference with the quartz version. It adopts a embossed texture, which gives it both relief and superb games of light.
The bracelet of the PRX PowerMatic 80 is an integral part of its design. Composed of broad links, it is completely brushed. Relatively fine, well articulated, it promises excellent comfort on a daily basis, in addition to a pest look. As the name suggests, the PRX PowerMatic 80 is animated by the PowerMatic movement. A well known automatic caliber. This is in fact an evolution of the famous ETA2892. A more modern version, which offers a colossal reserve of 80 hours. In addition, thanks to a spiral in Navachron, the movement enjoys increased resistance to magnetic fields. Visible through the sapphire glass of the box bottom, this movement is a size asset for the PRX. No doubt one of the best movements in this price range.
It is true that it is difficult to resist the temptation of a vintage signature design, whose price / price ratio surprises as much as it seduces: 650 €! And 350 euros for the quartz version.
